HAMPTON - Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire that engulfed one home and spread to another Sunday afternoon in Hampton.

At 2:22 p.m., Hampton police received a 911 report of a house fire at 716 Eighth St. SW.

When emergency crews arrived, they found the house was engulfed by flames. The blaze spread to an adjacent resident at 721 Eighth Ave. SW.

There were no injuries, according to police.

The Red Cross is assisting the displaced families, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.

The Hampton fire department and state fire marshal's office are investigating.
