ANKENY (AP) - A book about two male penguins raising a chick together will stay in the library at two elementary schools in Ankeny.
The school board voted Monday against a request to ban "And Tango Makes Three" or restrict it.
Cindy and James Dacus argue the book normalizes homosexuality to children who are too young to understand the lifestyle. The Dacuses can appeal to the Iowa Department of Education.
The couple attended Monday's meeting but declined to comment.
The board also voted to explore new ways to choose library books, which is now up to a single librarian at each school. The options include a committee, which could include librarians, parents and other members of the community.
