VINTON - Vinton police are investigating an armed robbery at John's Qwik Stop in Vinton at closing time Sunday evening.

A man approached the clerk in the parking lot after closing, displayed a long-barreled gun, and forced the clerk to re-open the store, police said. Once inside, the suspect emptied the cash registers, took a carton of cigarettes, and fled the scene.

The suspect is described as a young, black male, approximately 6 feet tall, thin build, wearing dark shoes, blue jeans with the thighs faded, a dark-colored hooded jacket, and a black ball cap with "CSI" on it. The suspect's face was covered with what appeared to be a black shirt.

The suspect escaped with an undetermined amount of cash, and no injuries were reported.

Anyone with any information about this crime is urged to contact the Vinton Police Department with any information they have at (319) 472-2321.
