WATERLOO - The Black Hawk County sheriff has confirmed the identity of a man who died at a local hospital after having a "medical issue" while being booked into the jail.
Miles Kendall Clifton, 43, of 108 Toland Ave., Waterloo, died Sept. 24. Waterloo police officers had arrested Clifton on complaints of domestic abuse and consumption of alcohol in public.
Police had turned him over to the jail for booking.
At about 3 a.m., while being held in the jail's intake area, deputies noticed the he was having "medical issues."
He was transferred to Allen Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Sheriff Mike Kubik declined to comment on the incident, except to say they are awaiting the results of Clifton's autopsy and toxicology screenings.
