CEDAR FALLS - A Grundy Center woman has been arrested in connection with an infant who was found alone in a locked car Monday near the University of Northern Iowa.
Jessica Ann Noltensmeier, 32, was arrested Wednesday at 5:24 p.m. for child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor. She was released after posting bond, according to jail records.
Milissa Wright, UNI's associate director of public safety, said Noltensmeier was at the university's soccer fields Monday because one of her older children was involved in a soccer game there.
At 8:18 p.m., authorities were alerted after someone noticed a small child had been left in a Tahoe in the 90-degree heat. The vehicle was locked, and the engine wasn't running, according to court records. The infant's face was red, and the child appeared to be trying to cry, records state.
When UNI police were unable to locate the parents, the officers broke a window to remove the child from the vehicle.
Wright said Noltensmeier returned to her vehicle at about the time paramedics arrived at the scene.
According to court records, she admitted she left the vehicle at about 6:30 p.m. - almost two hours before the child was discovered. She told investigators she went to get something to eat.
The child was taken to Covenant Medical Center and is now doing well, Wright said.
The Iowa Department of Human Services was called and requested removal of the child, but a judge denied the request, Wright said.
