WATERLOO - An errant semitrailer driver knocked out power in a neighborhood on La Porte Road Monday evening after his trailer struck a utility pole.
Gary Miller of Cokato, Minn., was attempting to make a U-turn onto La Porte Road in front of Cadillac Lanes, 650 La Porte Road, from a frontage road around 10:30 p.m. Miller told police he didn't leave enough room for his trailer and struck two poles. One of them was disconnected. The other was a support for a transformer, according to police records.
The trailer fell on top of the poles, knocking out power for 1,139 MidAmerican customers in the surrounding area.
MidAmerican Energy restored power within a half hour. The accident caused about $2,500 worth of damage to the poles.
