ALGONA (AP) - Even at age 84, Ruby Heinen shovels snow from her walkway.
But the Algona resident was no match for a charging deer that knocked her down outside her home.
Heinen was clearing snow Sunday morning when the big buck hit her from behind. She was left with two broken ribs, a swollen lip and bruises to her face.
Deer in the area are common, and she thinks this one was startled by a barking dog.
Heinen was feeling a little better Thursday but remained surprised by what happened. As she put it, "Good grief, I tell you. Oh Lord. Such a darn thing to happen."
