WATERLOO - Waterloo police and Fire Rescue paramedics were called about 3:15 p.m. Thursday to a residence at 1109 Randolph St. regarding a report of a 1-week-old infant who had sustained a severe laceration.

Upon arrival, police said, it was determined James Lockart, who was born Dec. 23, was the victim of an aggravated assault. The baby was taken to Covenant Medical Center and later transferred to University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Police were conducting interviews into the incident, and no arrests had yet been made.

Police said there may be more information released later in the day.
