WATERLOO - The announcement of an administrative appointment in the Waterloo Community School District is being made today. Brenton Shavers, currently in his second year as principal at Bunger Middle School, is being recommended to the Board of Education as the new Athletic Director for East High School, replacing Mike Allen who is retiring.
Shavers, a Waterloo native and East High graduate, holds a master's in educational leadership from the University of Northern Iowa and a bachelor of arts in elementary education, with a concentration in social studies, from Simpson College. He was previously assistant principal at Bunger and at Northwest Middle School, in Kansas City, Kan.
Prior to that he was a teacher in elementary schools in Waterloo and St. Paul, Minn. He also worked as a treatment director, juvenile care worker, program manager, and case manager/country social work supervisor for human service agencies in Iowa, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania.
Superintendent Dewitt Jones said "We were pleased to learn that Brenton was interested in the East AD position. He has done an outstanding job at Bunger, and his successful experience in diverse settings and his commitment will benefit the students, families, and staff of East High."
"As a former East High student and athlete," said Shavers, "I feel fortunate to have been granted this opportunity. I look forward to working with the staff and students on a daily basis as well as their parents, who we all know are truly the backbone to every successful program regardless of the level of competition.'
