CEDAR FALLS - After a near-perfect game by quarterback Wyatt Hanus, the North

Tama Redhawks are in the first state football title game in school history.

Hanus completed 22 of 24 passes for 298 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Redhawks swarmed Northwood-Kensett, 35-14, in Saturday's Class A semifinal.

"The kids need to enjoy this for a day before we talk about much else," said North Tama coach Brandon Krusey. "It's a great accomplishment for them, our school and our community. We're excited to get a chance next week."

Northwood-Kensett (11-2) had little chance of slowing down the Redhawks' spread offense on the fast track of the UNI-Dome's indoor turf. North Tama rolled up 499 total yards, while Hanus completed 13 straight passes at one point, and didn't have a ball hit the ground until late in the third quarter.

"We expected to come in here and throw, but I was a little bit surprised," Hanus said. "Since everybody came in an stepped it up, we could throw all over them."

Seven different receivers caught passes for North Tama, led by tight end Justin Meggers, who caught four passes for 97 yards and one touchdown, and Caleb Edwards, whose six receptions totaled 83 yards and another TD.

Now 13-0, North Tama will meet Southern Cal of Lake City at 2 p.m. Friday for the state title.
