CEDAR FALLS - Northern Iowa running backs Derrick Law and Taylor Brookins have been suspended for violation of team rules, Panther head coach Mark Farley announced today.

Law will miss the Iowa game, Farley said. Brookins' suspension is indefinite, added the UNI head coach.

Cedar Falls Police said Law was arrested Saturday for public intoxication and criminal trespass. Cedar Falls Police report Law walked into a house about two blocks from his home on North College Street about 5:18 a.m. The resident called police and Law was arrested.

Brookins was arrested for possession of marijuana Saturday in Bremer County. Bremer County Sheriff Dewey Hildebrandt said the arrest resulted from a call to a rural residence. Two other men with Brookins, Phillip Clark, 21, of Waterloo, and Jordan Borcherding, 21, of Cedar Falls, were arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The number of Panther players disciplined in recent weeks has grown to five. Backup quarterback Zach Davis plus reserve offensive linemen Evan Tecklenburg and Misha Danilov drew suspensions a week ago.

"As much as we want to win this (Iowa) game and as much as I want to win this game … we will not compromise our university and our program to do that," said Farley.

Law is a senior from Kansas City who finished high school at Newton. Brookins, a junior, is a Cedar Falls graduate.

As previously reported, backup quarterback Zach Davis plus offensive linemen Evan Tecklenburg and Misha Danilov will miss the first game for recent arrests. Davis and Tecklenburg are sophomores; Danilov is a redshirt freshman.

Davis was arrested recently and charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Tecklenburg and Danilov were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia in the wake of a July arrest. Danilov was also charged with possession of marijuana.

Tecklenburg has lost his football scholarship, since it was his second brush with the law in as many years. Last summer, he drew operating while intoxicated and possession of drug paraphernalia after a car accident in Cedar Falls.

"Three players have been suspended for the Iowa game in accordance with our student-athlete code of conduct policy," said UNI head coach Mark Farley in a statement issued through the Sports Information Department.

Davis' loss would the most significant, given his role as Pat Grace's primary backup.

A year ago, the Washington High product appeared in seven games, starting three. He completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 504 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. UNI won all three games with Davis as the starting quarterback.

Tecklenburg, from Muscatine, saw action in 13 games last season. Most of his appearances came as a reserve offensive lineman and on special teams.

Danilov, from Middleton, Wis., did not play in 2008.
