2 Iowa prison inmates die over weekend

FORT MADISON - Two Iowa prison inmates have died from illnesses over the weekend.

Tony Walker, an inmate assigned to the Iowa State Penitentiary, died Friday at University Hospitals in Iowa City of natural causes from a homorrhegic stroke (bleeding in the brain), prison officials said.

Walker, 67, was serving a life sentence from Pottawattamie County for kidnapping in the first degree and sexual abuse in the second degree. He sentence began Feb. 2, 2006.

Anthony Reese, 55, an inmate at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Oakdale, died Saturday from liver cancer.

Reese was serving a five-year sentence from Polk County for failure to register as a sexual offender. His sentence began June 1, 2007.
