CHARLES CITY - A Charles City woman will be among the cast on "Survivor: Gabon" this fall.

Susie Smith, 47, is one of 18 contestants who competed in the latest season of the CBS hit reality TV series, which took place in the African country of Gabon.

The season begins Sept. 25.

In her biography on the CBS Web site, Smith is described as the daughter of Mexican immigrant parents who were crop field workers. She worked alongside them in the fields at a young age.

Her bio also describes her as "bold and brassy with a huge zest for life."

Smith, a hairdresser who also teaches English to non-English speaking children from kindergarten through eighth grade, has been married to her husband, Todd, a Charles City police officer, for 25 years. They have one son, Trent, and two dogs.

She is a graduate of the Marshalltown Cosmetology School and North Iowa Area Community College.
