ARNOLDS PARK - A University of Northern Iowa football player, his brother and another man have been arrested in Arnolds Park, Iowa, in connection with an assault that left a man unconscious.
Arnolds Park Police said those arrested were:
- Austin Steichen, 22, of Remsen, charged with wilfull injury, public intoxication, disorderly conduct and simple assault. Steichen is a 6 foot, 3 inch starting center for the Panthers. He is a senior on next year's squad.
- Andrew Steichen, 20, of Remsen, charged with misuse of license or ID card to acquire alcohol, public intoxication, willful injury assault, possession of alcohol as a minor, disorderly conduct and simple assault.
- Adam Dwyer, 30, of Cincinnati, Ohio, charged with willful injury assault, public intoxication, disorderly conduct, simple assault and interference with officials acts.
Police were called to a fight on the corner of Broadway Street and Allan Avenue in Arnolds Park Tuesday and found an unconscous male. The victim, who was not identified, was transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare and treated for injuries to his head, face and torso.
No further details were released. Police said they were aided in their investigation by the Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire and Rescue, the Milford Police Department, the Okoboji Police Department, the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office and the Lakes Regional Ambulance.
The investigation continues.
UNI football coach Mark Farley today said: "I am aware of the situation and I'm looking into the details before any decisions are made. We need to let the investigation take its course."
