CEDAR FALLS - Former Charles City High School girls basketball coach Adam DeJoode has joined the women's basketball coaching staff at the University of Northern Iowa.
DeJoode compiled a 78-40 record in five years as Charles City's coach. In 2004 he led the Comets to a 23-4 record and state Class 3A runnerup finish.
His teams led the state in three-point field goals made in two different seasons, and set 43 of 50 school records during his tenure.
In 2006 he left Charles City to coach at Southeast Polk in Runnells. In his second season there he led the Rams to their first winning season in a decade.
DeJoode also developed a formal youth program for girls in 4th through 8th grades.
He also served as the president of the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association, and coached more than 30 Division I players while working as the IBCA Iowa Select Team Coordinator.
His IBCA teams finished with a five-year record of 137-27, and combined to win seven tournaments in 2007 and 2008.
DeJoode coached three Miss Iowa players and sent seven players to Division I schools in both 2007 and 2008.
"Adam has a bright future at the collegiate level due to his coaching experience, incredible work ethic and outstanding knowledge of the game," UNI head coach Tanya Warren said. "He is a basketball junkie who is well-respected in Iowa and the Midwest. He will bring a tremendous amount of passion and energy to our team."
DeJoode, a Cedar Falls native, earned his bachelor's degree in exercise and sport science from Iowa State University.
He and his wife, Liz, have a 9-month-old son, Jack.
