OSAGE - The trial of an Orchard man on 20 counts involving the sexual abuse of children begins Tuesday in Mitchell County District Court.

The trial date for Jimmy Dean Shaw, 41, was moved up from the original date of July 14.

Shaw faces 10 counts of sexual abuse in the third degree and five counts each of sexual abuse in the second degree and lascivious acts with a child.

Assistant County Attorney Nicholas T. Larson alleged in his complaint that Shaw committed the abuse between 2002 and 2007 with a child 12 or under.

Several of the charges have been enhanced, which would place them in the Class A felony category. As a result, if Shaw was convicted he could be sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Charges may be enhanced if someone has been convicted before on similar charges. Shaw was convicted of two counts of lascivious acts with a child in 1996.

Shaw is being held with no bond in the Mitchell County Jail.
