WATERLOO - More than 50,000 Black Hawk residents will receive a call Wednesday morning from CodeRED informing residents how they can receive weather warnings by phone.
The Caller ID will read (866) 419-5000 or Emergency Communications Network for CodeRED calls.
Residents must sign up to get CodeRED calls on a cell phone and to get the weather warning. CodeRED calls were initiated twice already since the service was activated July 1, according to Black Hawk County Emergency Management Agency Coordinator Barbara Berquam.
To register to receive a CodeRED weather warnings, go to the Emergency Management Web site at www.bhciaema.org and click on the CodeRED icon.
The free registration is open to all Black Hawk County residents. Residents with this system will only receive storm warnings for the area in which they live. The calls go only to those whose address is within the NWS warning polygon. For CodeRED Weather Warning calls, either the number (800) 566-9780 or Emergency Communications Network will appear on Caller ID displays.
