CLEAR LAKE - Kevin Costner and his band Modern West have almost become regulars in North Iowa the last few months.

After a concert in Leland in January, Costner and his band performed in North Iowa again Monday night at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake.

North Iowans weren't complaining about the frequent appearances.

"I'm hoping he adopts us like Robert Redford adopted Sundance, Utah," said Cheryl Conner, Rockford.

A group of nine people from Mitchell's Bar and Grill in Leland - one of the places Costner performed in that small town - came to see him for the second time.

"We really appreciated him coming and playing at the bar," said Todd Spooner of Forest City, a Mitchell's Bar employee. "That's why we're here to support him and hope that he comes back again."

Rhonda King, Forest City and Mitchell's employee, had her photo taken with Costner when he was in Leland. She was hoping he'd sign it Monday night.

"I've seen every movie he's ever made," she said. "I've seen 'Message in a Bottle' 31 times."

She suggested that Mitchell's Bar name a burger after Costner.

Owner Jeff Mitchell thought it was a good idea.

"The KC burger is in the works," he said. "We just need to find out what he likes."

Sara Moler, Clear Lake, came to the Surf Monday night hoping to meet Costner. She got her wish and a picture taken with him.

"Ooo la la," she said. "He sounded exactly like he does in the movies. He wasn't quite as tall as I expected, but he was cute."

Other people at the concert were able to see him up close, too.

Costner entered through the northeast doors of the Surf Ballroom and walked through the crowd to reach the stage.

The crowd went crazy trying to pat him on the back, shake hands with him or get a picture.

When he got on stage he said a lot of good things had happened in his life and this was one of the greatest. Then the music began.
