WATERLOO -- An infant died Tuesday morning in what investigators are calling an accident.
Family members discovered the 2-month-old girl wasn't breathing at her home at 200 Western Ave. shortly before 7:16 a.m. and called paramedics.
Efforts to revive the baby weren't successful.
An official cause of death is pending an autopsy, but police suspect the child suffocated while sleeping as four or five people napped on the floor.
The residents were on the floor watching movies the night before and fell asleep, said Capt. John Beckman said. At some point another child who had been sleeping elsewhere entered the room and laid down, causing others to shift, he said.
At some point, one of the people apparently rolled over on the baby, Beckman said.
He said foul play isn't suspected.
The identity of the child hasn't been released.
