DES MOINES - A Steamboat Rock woman won fourth place in the 49th annual Bill Riley Talent Search competition at the Iowa State Fair earlier this month.
Lauren Hartman, 20, also won $450 for her efforts. Her talent was a vocal solo, "Quandro Men Vo."
Coralville residents Alex Bogh, 18, Adam Bogh, 18, and Michael McAndrew, 18, and Iowa City residents Jeremy Gussin, 19, and Michael Penick, 19, took first place in the talent show. The vocal quintet walked away with $7,500 from Farm Bureau Financial Services for their performance of "Kiss Him Goodbye."
Isaac Stauffer, 19, of Wayland, won $3,000 for his tap routine to "Ladies Choice."
Third place went to Center Point's Eva Andersen, 19, for her jazz saxaphone solo, "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes."
Fifth place went to Andrew Naylor, 20, of Lamoni, who won $500 for his violin solo, "Danse Espagnole."
In the sprout division, (ages 2 to 12) three were named final champions:
-- Andrew Burgess, 6, of Iowa City, piano solo
-- Peter Bekkerus, 10, Kassidy Pieper, 11, both of Denison, tap duet
- Emma Conroy, 12, Lucy Conroy, 11, both of Mount Vernon; Anna Kaldjian, 11, Iowa City, string trio.
