DES MOINES (AP) - Thunderstorms erupted early today across Iowa, bringing strong winds and large hail.
The storms developed over central Iowa, then moved across the Des Moines area and into southeast Iowa. Nickel- to quarter-size hail was reported in Des Moines, West Des Moines as well as Waukee and Adel.
Strong winds also buffeted the region. Winds of 65 mph hit Oskaloosa.
No injuries or damage were reported.
The thunderstorms developed along a boundary line of a cold front now pushing south, which will bring relief to a heat wave that sent temperatures climbing into the 100s.
High pressure will bring drier and cooler weather to most of the state.
