Hanenberger promoted to UNI assistant track and field coach

CEDAR FALLS - University of Northern Iowa volunteer coach Eric Hanenberger has been promoted to assistant track and field coach UNI head coach, Travis Geopfert announced.

Hanenberger has served as a volunteer assistant at UNI for the past two seasons. He will work primarily with UNI's throwing events.

Outside of UNI, Hanenberger was the director of athlete development at Waterloo West High School, designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for West High School's 21 varsity sports. He also spent time coaching high school track and field, spending a season as the assistant coach at Eastview High School in Apple Valley, Minn.

As a graduate student at UNI, Hanenberger was a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach. He implemented strength and conditioning programs for a variety of UNI varsity sports, including the men's and women's track and field team, women's basketball, and softball.

Hanenberger has served as a personal trainer for a wide variety of athletes, including former UNI All-Americans and now professional athletes, Jacob Pauli and Joe Detmer. Hanenberger provided athletes with individualized strength programs for their specialized track and field events.

Hanenberger, a native of Apple Valley, Minn., received two bachelor's degrees from UNI in 2004, one in marketing and one in exercise science and later received his master's degree in exercise science in 2007, also from UNI.
