MONTICELLO - An 81-year-old Monticello woman died in a van-car crash on Highway 38 Friday evening about 6:40 p.m. near the Jones County-Delaware County line.

The deceased is identified as Louise Ilene Garrett. She was a passenger in a car driven by Lawrence Mienhart Brockhorn, 82, of Monticello, who was injured in the accident. He was transported to Anamosa Hospital.

The Iowa State Patrol said a van being driven by Kathryn Margaret Pfiffner, 39, of Monticello was southbound on Highway 38, while Brockhorn's car was northbound. Brockhorn reportedly lost control, crossing the center line into the path of the van.

Pfiffner was not injured, but was transported to Anamosa Hospital for observation.

The Patrol did not say if weather was a contributing factor.
