DES MOINES - The Iowa Board of Pharmacy on Tuesday is expected to discuss the possibility of a scientific review of the medical use of marijuana.
Lloyd Jessen, the board's executive secretary and director, said a proposal before the board would allow for a series of public hearings around the state this year. Those hearings would let Iowans give their input on the issue and look and the pros and cons of medical marijuana.
"The result of that whole thing would be perhaps a recommendation to the Legislature next year," Jessen said.
Jessen said board members could adopt a plan for review as early as Tuesday at their regular meeting. The board earlier this year rejected the arguments of advocates who want to allow the use of marijuana for medical purposes in Iowa.
A measure that would have allowed for the use of marijuana for medical purposes stalled in the Iowa Legislature earlier this year.
