WATERLOO - A Waterloo man died after being involved in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 380 near the Urbana exit Monday night.
Clement Pelikan, 82, no address given, was driving northbound on the interstate in a Dodge Dakota truck when he stopped in the roadway for an unknown reason, according to the Iowa State Patrol. His vehicle was struck by a car driven by Matthew Patrilla, 23, of Toddville.
Pelilkan exited his pickup and a third vehicle driven by Matthew Farmer, 36, of Vinton, swerved in an attempt to miss the accident. The Farmer vehicle struck Pelikan's truck, which struck Pelikan, throwing him into the ditch, the ISP said.
Weather and road conditions were a factor in the accident, troopers said.
Farmer was slightly injured in the accident, but refused medical treatment, troopers said. Patrilla also was injured and was treated at the scene.
The investigation continues into the accident
