WATERLOO - A Waterloo man has pleaded guilty to abusing a teenage boy multiple times, and now faces additional charges.
Thomas Lee Drilling, 66, of 1601 Forest Ave., was arrested in January for two separate sex abuse incidents by Evansdale and Waterloo police involving boys over the age of 13. He was charged with two counts of third-degree sexual abuse in the Evansdale case and one count of second-degree abuse the Waterloo case.
On Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to third-degree sexual abuse in the Waterloo case and was immediately sentenced to 10 years in prison. As part of his conviction, Drilling will have to undergo sex offender treatment and have lifetime supervision, according to court documents.
The Evansdale case was dismissed by the Black Hawk County Attorney's Office on Feb. 9 for lack of jurisdiction. The alleged crime occurred in Minnesota.
The Evansdale cases allege Drilling abused a boy in 1993 and 1994 while on a week-long fishing trips to Minnesota, according to court documents. The Waterloo charge states he abused a boy about a dozen times between 1990 and 1995 when the victim was 10 to 13 years old.
It could not be immediately determined whether new charges would be brought against Drilling in Minnesota.
Also on Tuesday, Drilling was charged with a new count of third-degree sexual abuse by Waterloo police. He is accused of abusing a boy from ages 13 to 16 more than 75 times between 1999 and 2003 at his home on Forest Avenue, according to court records.
