ELDORA - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will begin allowing camping on a first come, first serve basis at Pine Lake State Park today.
Work crews have cleared debris from the storm that hit the Eldora area Aug. 9. Reservations for the campground will resume Monday.
Campers with reservations after Monday, including Labor Day Weekend, are still in effect.
The park lodge began accepting reservations Wednesday, and the cabins are open for all current and future reservations. The beach and beach parking lot are open, but there is still some residual storm debris. The Hogsback Picnic Area and upper boat ramp area remain closed.
"Our crews have made tremendous progress, but there will still be signs of the storm and debris scattered throughout the park, beach and trails," said Greg Van Fosson, regional supervisor for Iowa Department of Natural Resources State Parks Bureau.
"We certainly sympathize with everyone in the area who is busy cleaning up from this storm.
The community has been going through a difficult time and as they get the damage repaired. We hope the park can again offer them a place to relax and unwind from their daily stress."
