LUCAS - An 11-year-old boy died in a single-vehicle crash on snow-covered roads in southern Iowa early today.

Miguel Cano of Sedalia, Mo., was a passenger in a Ford Windstar van that rolled on Highway 65 and 467th Street south of Lucas, which is in Lucas County. The accident was reported about 12:25 a.m.

The driver of the van was Agustin Cano Gonzalez, 36, also of Seladia. Those injured in the crash included Olga cano, 13, Isidro Alejo, 6, and Romiro Alejo, 14, and Louis Silva, 9, all of Sedalia, Mo. They were taken to Lucas County Health Center in Lucas for treatment.

The Iowa State Patrol said the van was northbound on Highway 65 and slid onto the east shoulder. The driver overcorrected and the vehicle crossed the roadway, entered the west ditch and rolled several times. The injured and the boy who died were ejected from the vehicle.

The report states that none of the children were wearing seat belts.

Troopers said the roadway was completely covered with snow and ice, which is a contributing factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
