Holiday Market Basket

Location: Kimball Ridge Center, 2101 Kimball Ave., Waterloo

Details: The Kimball Ridge Family Market is hosting the event. Area farmers and crafters will be selling a variety of unique seasonal foods and gifts. There will be complimentary baked treats and hot apple cider. For more information, call (319) 478-8624.

Breakfast with Santa

Time: 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday (repeating Dec. 15)

Location: Heritage Farm, 7731 Zaneta Road, Hudson (3 miles south and west of Hudson on D-35)

Details: Rides start at 9 a.m. and run every 45 minutes with the last departure at 1:30 p.m. Gentle horse-drawn sleigh ride to a rustic cabin in the woods. There, families will be greeted by Santa's helers with hot cocoa, milk, juice or coffee, a crackling fire, homemade cinnamon rolls and Santa. Then it's off to PaDaddy's 100-year-old barn for a special farm animal tour and fun in the hayloft.

Victorian Holiday Traditions

Time: 9 a.m. to noon Saturday

Location: Rensselaer Russell House Museum, 503 W. Third St., Waterloo

Details: Tour the Rensselaer Russell House Museum decorated in its holiday spendor. Learn the history behind the Victorian Christmas tree and its many ornaments, enjoy a Victorian cookie and make crafts from other countries.

Cost:$10 for children and $6 for adults. Registration deadline was Wednesday. For more information, call 234-6357.

Holiday Cookie Walk

Time: 9 a.m. to noon Saturday

Location: North Star Community Services, 3420 University Ave., Waterloo

Details: The event is organized by the Joint Volunteers of the Arc of Cedar Valley with help from local volunteer bakers. Customers are given bakery boxes to choose their own selection of homemade cookies, candies, bars and brittles. The treats are weighed and bought by the pound. Proceeds help individuals with disabilities served by North Star Community Services and Exceptional Persons Inc.

Art Sale

Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Location: Cedar Falls High School

Details: The Cedar Falls High School chapter of Amnesty International is having the fundraiser. A wide variety of art from high school and UNI students as well as art from local businesses will be for sale. Art will include blown glass, photography, jewelry, pottery and paintings. Proceeds will go toward building a school in Cambodia.

Cookie Walk

Time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Location: AMVETS Post, 20th and Irving streets, Cedar Falls

Details: Cedar Falls AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary will host the event. People may choose their cookies and fill a bucket. Proceeds benefit the veterans.

Santa at the malls

Time: Variable

Location: Collge Square Mall in Cedar Falls and Crossroads Center in Waterloo

Details: Santa hours through Dec. 9 at College Square Mall are noon to 5 p.m. today and 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 8 p.m. Saturdays; Santa hours at Crossroads are during mall hours.

Celebrate the Season

Time: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday

Location: Waterloo Center for the Arts, 225 Commercial St.

Details: Several events taking place for the whole family: Make and take holiday crafts; polymer clay stories by honey, balloon sculpture art; puppet show.

Santa's Workshop

Time: 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday

Location: Hearst Center for the Arts, Cedar Falls

Details: Join the Hearst Center elves for an afternoon of fun. Each elf specializes in different crafts, including ornaments, greeting cards, wrapping paper, stockings, picture frames and gift tags. All ages welcome; free admission for ages 2 and under. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Public ice skating

Downtown Lights the Night

Time: 3:45 to 7 p.m.

Location: Downtown Waterloo

Details: Santa will arrive via hay wagon down Fourth Street starting at the overpass. Events will be in the Black's Building and the former Walker Shoe Store building. Free entertainment will be provided and children can make crafts and visit with Santa. Fireworks will shoot off over the Cedar River at 6:15 p.m.

The Moroccan Christmas Willow

Time: 7 p.m. (also 1 p.m. Dec. 20 and a possible show Dec. 21)

Location: Lampost Theatre, 204 W. Seerley Blvd., Cedar Falls

Details: Authentic folk tales come to life as a colorful cast of characters serve you, perform, dance and sing. Shows today and Tuesday include a dessert; Friday and Saturday a dinner.
