WEST DES MOINES (AP) - West Des Moines police have identified the man shot to death by officers investigating a string of home break-ins and sexual assaults.
Police say 36-year-old Adam Harvell was shot by officers after they entered a townhouse in the Village of Glen Oaks in West Des Moines through an unlocked door after not getting a response Tuesday night.
Police say Harvell confronted the officers with a gun once they were inside.
Police say Harvell was a suspect in the case and had lived at Glen Oaks with his girlfriend for about two years.
Police Lt. Jeff Miller says the officers weren't in uniform but had badges and identified themselves as officers. Miller says Harvell didn't fire any shots. He didn't know how many shots the officers fired.
The officers have been placed on paid administrative leave.
