Today's forecast is a high near 52 but windy with northwest winds between 15 and 25 mph. Gusts are expected up to 38 mph. Thursday's forecast is mostly sunny with a high near 44. It will remain breezy with gusts up to 24 mph.
-- For Garth Brooks fans, today is the day his concert will be simulcast at movie theaters across the country, including College Square Mall in Cedar Falls. You can watch the concert at 8 p.m. for $10. An encore performance will be 8 p.m. Thursday. For tickets, visit the box office or www.marcustheatres.com.
-- Walt Whitman Live! 7:30 p.m. Lang Hall Auditorium on the University of Northern Iowa campus. Bill Koch will present his one-man show portraying Whitman. Koch is a UNI adjunct professor of English. The show lasts 50 minutes.
-- Also on the UNI campus are two music events. At 6 p.m. in Davis Hall in the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, the School of Music will present a vocal showcase. The event is free. At 8 p.m. in the same location, music professor Yu-Ting Su and the UNI Horn Choir will give a performance. There is no charge.
-- If it's Wednesday, it must be Messy Mornings at the Hearst Center for the Arts, 304 W. Seerley Blvd., Cedar Falls. This is the last day for this session. Children ages 3-6 can get creative and as messy as they like. They must be accompanied by an adult. It costs $5 per child. A new session will start up soon.
