LA PORTE CITY - Margaret M. Nichol, 50, of La Porte City, died Monday, Nov. 12, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, of breast cancer.
She was born June 26, 1957, in Waterloo, daughter of Frederick and Margaret Raska Brown. She married Todd Nichol in 1991 in Aldan, Pa., and they later divorced.
Ms. Nichol worked as a special needs language arts teacher at Waterloo West High School for two years. She served in the U.S. Navy on active duty for four years, then remained in the Navy Reserves for another 18 years, stationed out of Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include: two daughters, Julia Rose and Anna May Nichol, both at home; a brother, Robert Brown of Belfair, Wash.; and a sister, Donna (Carl) Yant of Evansdale.
Preceded in death by: her parents; and two brothers, Le Roy and George Brown.
Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at First Church of the Open Bible, Waterloo. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, Waterloo, under the auspices of Huisman Funeral Home, La Porte City. Visitation also for an hour before services Thursday at the church. Military rites will be conducted at the church following the service by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623.
