WATERLOO - Janet Lee Balkmon, 65, of 219 Adams St., died Thursday, Nov. 6, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.

She was born Feb. 4, 1943, in Iowa City, daughter of William Cleveland and Ella Clyde Curry Morehead Sr. She married Willie Balkmon in 1960. He died in 1999.

Mrs. Balkmon graduated from Waterloo East High School and attended the University of Northern Iowa. She worked at Chamberlain Manufacturing Co. until she was disabled with rheumatoid arthritis. She attended Antioch Baptist Church and later studied with Jehovah's Witnesses.

Survived by: two daughters, Christia L. (Daniel) Diaz and Dia (Anthony) Ellis, both of Los Angeles; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, Robert C. Morehead of Las Vegas, Charles E. (Bernice) Morehead of Tacoma, Wash., Jerry D. (Jackie) Morehead of Ontario, Canada, and Michael Morehead of Waterloo; and three sisters, Joyce M. (Lawrence) Harris and Juanita L. Zinsmeister, both of Los Angeles, and Margo Draine of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: two brothers, William C. Morehead Jr. and Donald Louis Morehead; and two sisters, Maxine Caldwell and Patricia Wilkins.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Greer Funeral Home, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
