WAVERLY- Raydean L. "Fairway-Ray" Happel, 59, of Waverly, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, following complications of cardiac arrhythmia while driving to work.
He was born June 18, 1949, in Waverly, son of Erwin Henry and Dorothy Fern Renner Happel. On Oct. 23, 1999, he married Karla Wiener in Waverly.
Mr. Happel graduated in 1967 from Waverly-Shell Rock High School. In 1963 he worked for his father at Happel & Hahlweg Construction and then worked at Wittenburg Trucking, Readlyn. For the past 28 years he worked for the Bremer County secondary road crew.
Survived by: his wife; four sons, Jeff (Lisa) of Fayette, Jeremy (Jen) and Marc (Samantha), both of Denver, and Matt (Angie) of Lamont; four stepchildren, Eric (Tanya) Swygman and Shawn (Lindsey) Swygman, both of Polk City, Kim Swygman of Shenandoah and Arend (Molli) Swygman of Dallas Center; 10 grandchildren; 18 stepgrandchildren; his mother of Waverly; two sisters, Verilyn (Terry) Savage of Waverly and Janelle (Kenneth) Bennett of Davenport; and a brother, Kendall Happel of Tripoli.
Preceded in death by: his father; and a grandson.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Waverly, followed by cremation and inurnment at a later date. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.
