WATERLOO - Dr. Maurice J. Murphy, 90, of Waterloo, formerly of Lodi, Wis., died Thursday, May 22, at Rosewood Estates, under the care of Amenity Hospice and Allen Private Duty Home Care.
He was born June 13, 1917, in Sumner, son of James "J.P." and Agnes O'Malley Murphy. He married his wife, Anna Marie White Murphy. She died in November 1984.
Dr. Murphy graduated from Sumner High School in 1935. He then attended the University of Notre Dame, where he took pre-med courses, and he obtained a medical degree from Loyola University, Chicago.
After general practice with a medical group in Welch, W. Va. and duty as a medical officer in the U.S. Air Corps, he received a radiology degree from Johns Hopkins University. He served hospitals in Illinois, Kentucky and Northeast Iowa.
Survived by: a son, Daniel "Joe" of Sauk City, Wis.; four daughters, Maureen Murphy (Douglas Andrews) of Middleton, Wis., Elizabeth Murphy of Newton, Mass., Eileen Murphy of Oshkosh, Wis., and Kathleen "Katie" (David) Larson of Denver; 10 granddaughters, Megan, Elissa, Annamarie and Glenna Andrews, Flannery, Maeve, Rowan and Liza Sockwell, Erin Murphy and Natasha Swoboda; two brothers, Thomas (Margaret) of Sumner and James III (Nicky) of Downingtown, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: a brother, Lawrence.
Private family burial: will take place Wednesday at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville. There will be no public visitation. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
