VINTON - Betty L. Michael, 73, of Vinton, died Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness.
She was born March 8, 1935, in Vinton, daughter of Nicholas and Eva Long Hess. She married Gerald Michael on June 20, 1955, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Vinton.
She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1954. For 22 years Mrs. Michae land her husband owned and operated Michael's Country Café in Vinton. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Survived by: her husband; a son, Jerry (Jacki) of Urbana; three daughters, Cathy (Jeff) Clouse of Dysart, Barb (Kevin) Rogers of Cedar Falls and Lisa (Jeff) Winsor of Vinton; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Marvin (Liz) Hess of Waterloo.
Preceded in death by: three sisters, Lola Westendorf, Lucille Raines and Bonnie Durnam; a brother, Richard Thomsan; and a son-in-law, Kyle Tharp.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary's Spencer Grove Cemetery, both in Urbana. Public visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Phillips Family Center, Vinton, with rosary devotions to follow at 7 p.m. The casket will be closed.
