DUNKERTON - Richard B. Speed, 65, of Dunkerton, died Friday, June 26, at Allen Memorial Hospital of a heart attack suffered on June 25.

He was born July 21, 1943, in Waterloo, son of Clarence and Betty Cahoe Speed and was raised by his grandmother, Amy Cheney of Dunkerton. He married Rosemary Neufield on Oct. 27, 1962, in Preston, Minn.

Mr. Speed was employed with Hauptly Construction Company (now known as Bart Brothers Construction Company) for 34 years, retiring in 2002.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, Dion (Patricia) of Jesup and Darrin (Lynn) of Waterloo; a daughter, Debbie (Troy) Vaughn of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren, Brooke, Josh, Jesse, Travis, Lacey, Rocky, Sara, Sydnie, Jordan, Brandon and Derick; two great-grandchildren, Jamie and Beyonce; a brother, Bob (Brenda) of Dunkerton; a sister, Marie Speed of Dunkerton; two half brothers, Gary (Debbie) Luitjens of Strawberry Plains, Tenn., and Wendo "Wink" (Diane) Luitjens of Waterloo; three half sisters, Virginia (Lamont) Good of New Hartford, Janice Hutchins of Indpendence and Carla (Ron) Russell of Mount Pleasant, Tenn.; aunts and uncle, Shirley (Cahoe) and Don Weichman and Pat Cahoe, all of Waterloo; a sister-in-law, Martha (Mogens) Christensen of Cedar Falls; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by: an infant son, Dwayne.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Heartland Vineyard Church. Public visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway.

Memorials: may be directed to cancer research.
