WATERLOO - Virginia A. Manning Lyon, 82, of Waterloo, died Friday, Nov. 28, at Covenant Medical Center of cancer.

She was born Jan. 3, 1926, in Waterloo, daughter of John Joseph and Florence Curran Robert. She married LuVerne D. "Lu" Manning on Oct. 21, 1950, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waterloo. He died Jan. 5, 2004. She married Clayton Lyon on July 4, 2007, at St. Edward Catholic Church, Waterloo.

She graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1943 and Clarke College in 1947. She was a medical assistant to Dr. Charles Waterbury Jr.

She was a past president of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, past vice president of the Junior Service League and candidate for Disaster Team of the American Red Cross. She also was a member of Covenant Medical Auxiliary and a member of St. Edward's parish, where she was on the social concerns committee.

Survived by: her husband; two sons, Robert Earl (Julie) Manning of Waterloo and Mark LuVerne (Deanna) Manning of Urbandale; three daughters, Mary Manning (Frank) Shekleton of Burlington, Marti Manning (David) Auringer of Prior Lake, Minn., and Maggie Manning (Mark) Schumacher of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren, Drew (Amy) Manning, Lexie (B.J. Heath) Manning, Holly Auringer, Heidi Auringer, Matthew Schumacher, Michael Schumacher, Jane-Mitchell Schumacher, Alicia Manning and Tyler Manning; two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Oliver; a brother, William Robert of Waterloo; and a special niece, Liz (Dr. Geoff) Miller of Des Moines.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Dr. Richard Robert; and a sister, Betty Robert Koch.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church. The casket will be closed for the visitation and at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Association.
