WATERLOO - Richard L. "Dick" Ransom, age 74, of Placitas, N.M., died Jan. 20 in Albuquerque, N.M. Dick was born Sept. 30, 1933, in Waterloo, the son of Stanley and Zylpha Ransom. Dick attended Waterloo West High School and served in the armed forces in Korea. Dick received his bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa and his master's degree from Western New Mexico University. A teacher of over 35 years, Dick taught in Hudson, Waterloo (Central High and West High), California, and Santa Fe, N.M. Dick loved the outdoors and was an avid fly fisherman, camper and fly-tyer.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; his sister, Diane (Greg) Bice of Lake Almanor, Calif.; his children, Randy (Kristin) of Bloomfield, N.M., Rhonda of Elizabeth, Ill., Craig (Amaris) of Downey, Calif., and Chris (Cindy) of Bellflower, Calif.; and stepsons, Jeff Riker (Stella) of Maple Grove, Minn., and Dan Riker (Tamiela) of Cumberland. He is also survived by his 18 beloved grandchildren. Dick was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service was held on Jan. 25 at his church, Westminster Presbyterian, in Santa Fe.
