WATERLOO - Esther M. Hess, 98, of Waterloo, died Friday, Aug. 22, at her home of natural causes.

She was born Feb. 6, 1910, in Waterloo, daughter of John G. and Emma Goughnour Miller. She married Harvey Hess Jr. on Sept. 20, 1936. He died in November 1952.

She was a West High graduate in 1928 and attended Iowa State University studying home economics. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Hess was a member of South Waterloo Church of the Brethren, where she was the organist and she was an officer in the Christian Business Women's Club.

Survived by: a son, Harvey III of Waterloo; two daughters, Lucy (Bill) Schempp of Decorah and Linda Hess of Spokane, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Alice Miller of Grandview, Wash.; and three grandchildren, Corbin (Gretchen) Schempp of Decorah and Bethany Schempp of Chicago.

Preceded in death by: her parents; three sisters; and six brothers.

Memorial services: will be at a later date. Her body has been interred at the Orange Township Cemetery. Locke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
