WATERLOO - Frank C. "Whitey" Guild, 76, of Waterloo, died Friday, Dec. 12, at Covenant Medical Center of pancreatic cancer.

He was born Oct. 25, 1932, in Scandia Valley, Minn., son of Frank and Blanche Cook Guild. He married Sharon Hoppel in August 1958, in Waterloo. They later divorced. He married Marjorie Welter Gavigan on March 17, 1993, in Las Vegas.

He graduated from Waterloo East High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as a sergeant, stationed in England. After returning home he received his bachelor's degree from Upper Iowa University and his master's degree from UNI in physical education.

Mr. Guild was employed for 31 years with the Waterloo Community School District as a physical education teacher and basketball coach at Logan Middle School and Central High School, finishing his career as assistant vice principal at West High School.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, Michael of Waterloo and Brian of Fort Dodge; a daughter, Kelly (Rod) Hoerst of Fairbault, Minn.; a grandson, Jacob Hoerst of Fairbault; a stepson, Joel (Laura) Gavigan of Waterloo; a stepdaughter, Carol (Todd) Moe of Cedar Falls; four stepgrandchildren, Allison Dreyer of Cedar Falls, Justin Gavigan of Waterloo and Morgan and Thea Moe of Cedar Falls; and a half brother, William (Charlotte) Brenning of Highlandville.

Preceded in death by: his parents; his stepfather, William Brenning; a brother, Leslie; and two sisters, Verla Stumme and Geraldine Ritchie.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo and Evansdale Amvets Post 19 & 31. Public visitation from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Camp Courageous.
