REINBECK - Cynthia "Jo" Kerns, 77, of Reinbeck, died Friday, Nov. 14, at Manor Care Health Service, Waterloo.
She was born May 1, 1931, in Crossnore, N.C., daughter of Lloyd Grady and Tuppy Ann Weatherman Barrier. On June 6, 1954, she married Dean Kerns in Charlotte, N.C.
She received her degree as a registered dietitian from Berea College, Berea, Ky. She worked as a registered dietitian at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls, and then at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, where she retired from in 1993.
She was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, Reinbeck.
Survived by: her husband; three daughters, Cynthia (Mike) Cain of Selmer, Tenn., Denise (Wayne) Schares of La Porte City and Susan (Bart) Petersen of Reinbeck; a son, Joseph (Karen) of Ames; a son-in-law, Bryce Seegers of Denver; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marguerite Cooper of Memphis, Tenn., and Elizabeth Smith and Katelee (Howard) Woodie, both of Charlotte.
Preceded in death by: a daughter, Debra Seegers; and two brothers, Lloyd Barrier Jr. and William Barrier.
Memorial services: 11 a.m. Monday at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, Reinbeck. Public visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. today at French Hand Funeral Home, Reinbeck, where there will be a 6 p.m. scriptural wake service.
