WAVERLY - William J. Schrage, 83, of Waverly, died Sunday, Aug. 31, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly.
He was born Dec. 14, 1924, on a farm west of Clarksville, son of John and Minnie Lottman Schrage. On April 26, 1947, he married Genevieve Maurer at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waverly.
Mr. Schrage farmed west of Artesian, east of Waverly. During the winter months between 1954 and 1960, he also was employed at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works, Rath Packing Co., and at the Waverly Sales Co. From 1965 until 1983 he worked full time at Clay Equipment Co., Cedar Falls, and continued to farm, retiring in 1983.
Survived by: his wife; two daughters, Charissa (David) Carter of Nashua and Catherine (Tom) Johnston of Waverly; three sons, Clinton (Linda) and Cameron (friend Verna), both of Waverly, and Curtis (Jenice) of Rhinelander, Wis.; eight grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Elizabeth (Laurence) Liddle of Plainfield.
Preceded in death by: three brothers, Abel, Albert and John Jr.; and a sister, Rena Rover.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Good Shepherd Chapel, Bartels, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, both in Waverly. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the Good Shepherd Chapel.
