PARKERSBURG - William Ervin "Bill" Hassman, 94, of Parkersburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, of gastric cancer.

He was born Dec. 14, 1912, northeast of Sinclair-Parkersburg, son of William C. and Annie DeGroote Hassman. He married Jessie Studnicka on March 30, 1940, at the home of Oliver Smith in Waterloo. She died Sept. 2, 1969. He married Maxine Novak on April 17, 1971, in Blue River, Wis.

Mr. Hassman graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1929. He had farmed northeast of Sinclair, then north of Austinville, retiring in 1992.

Survivors include: his wife; a son, Willie Jr. (Mavis) of Aplington; two daughters, Lois (Donald) Uhlenhopp of Aplington and Bonnie (Clarence) Swieter of Dumont; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Vernon of Clarksville; and a sister, Alma Christensen-Jepperson of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by: an infant grandson; a sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and John Wessels; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Elizabeth Hassman; two brothers-in-law, Chester Christensen and Willis Jepperson; and a sister-in-law, Nelda Hassman.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Stout Gospel Hall, Stout, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Parkersburg. Public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, and for an hour before services Saturday at the hall.
