ONTARIO, Wis. - Rose Ella Brown, 87, Ontario, Wis., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at the home of Naasson and Peggy after a long illness.
On Jan. 27, 1921, Rose was born east of Dike to George and Patie (Berends) Arends. She attended country school there.
Rose came to know Christ as her Savior on June 21, 1940, through the Bible verse Timothy 1:15. Rose was first in fellowship in Stout. She was employed in Cedar Falls and at Chamberlain Manufacturing, Waterloo. There she met Paul. Rose and Paul were married Sept. 4, 1954. They started farming northeast of Dysart. In 1958 they came into fellowship at the Gospel Hall, Waterloo. In 1998 they moved to Ontario to be closer to their grandchildren. They became part of the fellowship at the Ontario Gospel Hall.
Rose enjoyed crocheting, gardening, reading the word of God and putting puzzles together.
Rose is survived by her husband, Paul, and one son, Naasson (Peggy) Brown, all of Ontario; grandchildren, Lydia, Andrew, Samuel and Chloe Brown; one sister-in-law, Marie Arends; along with nieces, nephews and cousins still living in Grundy and Butler counties in Iowa; and dear friends.
Rose was preceded in death by her mother and father; five brothers, Martin, Dick, Gerhard, Paul and Robert; a foster sister, Dora; and infant granddaughter, Rebekah.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 22, at 10:30 a.m. at Torkelson Funeral Home, Ontario. Speaker Robert Orr will officiate. Burial will follow in Hilltop Rest Cemetery, Ontario. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Visitation also will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
