WAVERLY - Gladys Osweiler, 84, of Waverly, formerly of Shell Rock, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, at her daughter's home in Manchester.

She was born May 4, 1924, in Wabasso, Fla., daughter of Thomas and Lois Williams Hines. On June 3, 1946, she married Charles D. Osweiler in Tallahassee. He preceded her in death Dec. 13, 2001.

She graduated from Leon High School, Tallahassee, Fla., and then worked at an air base in Florida as a riveter. She moved to Cedar Rapids and worked for a couple of years at a children's home.

In the early 1960s, the family moved to Shell Rock where they bought a nursing home that they operated for 19 years. She, her husband and his brothers also owned and operated the Osweiler Bros. Plumbing Heating and Hardware in Shell Rock. She then owned and operated Osweiler Annex Antiques for many years.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly. She loved sewing, embroidery, cooking, antiquing, playing cards, but most especially loved being with her family and grandchildren.

Survived by: three daughters, Lois Fink and Okqua (Dick) Smith, both of Shell Rock, and Barbara (Marvin) Waterhouse of Manchester; 10 grandchildren, Angela (Bob) Maiers, Laura (Chris) Kirtley, Christopher (fiancée Maxi Sikora) Finek, Rachel (Matt) Schwalm, Valerie Waterhouse, David (Kelly) Waterhouse, Sarah (Dan) Taylor, Brian (Tanya) Gabbard, Michele Daubs and Tim (Angie) Gabbard; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Osweiler of Tallahassee and Louise (Bob) Knowles of Strasburg, Va.

Preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; six sisters, Leone Deeb, Olive Norman, Althea Mayo, Ouida Heim, Frances Sorenson and Elinor McPherson; and three brothers, Walter, TM and Troupe Hines.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waverly, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Shell Rock. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, where there will be a 7 p.m. parish Scripture service.
