LA PORTE CITY -- Five homes will be dressed in festive finery and welcoming good cheer during the annual Tour of Homes, sponsored by the La Porte City Women's Club.
The tour is from 3 to 6 p.m. next Sunday. Tickets are $6 each and available at any of the homes on the tour. Homes also may be visited in any order during the tour.
Five homeowners decking the halls are Matt and Sarah Craft, 300 Walnut St.; Steven and Sherri Klein, 10320 Cotter Road; Teri Klockner, 105 Meadow Lane; Shaffer and Madelyn Ridgeway, 117 Meadow Lane; and Victor and Kristi Lawrinenko, 6365 Ripple Road.
The Craft home was built in 1917 in Arts & Crafts style and is listed on the National Historic Registry. The original blueprints will be displayed during the tour. The home boasts approximately 5,500 square feet, six bedrooms and original woodwork and fixtures throughout. In the dining room, for example, the entire sideboard is built in, and on the first floor, interior lighting in large square pillars is enclosed. Subtle Christmas decorations will accent the interiors.
Built in 2004, the Ridgeway home with its open floor plan features glamorous holiday decorations and Southern hospitality based on the family's Alabama heritage. Colors of dark purple, lime green and metallics are dramatic touches against white-painted woodwork. The fireplace mantel is highlighted by a large mirror, candles and a matching pair of vases filled with glittering branches.
Klockner's tri-level features a fireplace in the living/dining room, and every room is filled with Christmas trees celebrating a variety of themes, including music and the St. Louis Cardinals. A Santa collection is prominently displayed in the living room and each bedroom has its own holiday theme.
The Klein home, built in 2002, features a vaulted ceiling and oak woodwork, including an oak staircase. Each room on the main level is decorated with a different theme, with the dining room featuring "the true meaning of Christmas," the master bedroom with a Victorian theme, gingerbread men in the kitchen and snowmen around the living room fireplace.
The Lawrinenkos' spacious home was recently completed.
Funds raised will go toward philanthropic projects.
