WAVERLY/WATERLOO -- It's mid-April.

You haven't yet worked up enough courage to shop for a new swimsuit. The kids want to wear shorts to school even when mornings are still chilly, and they can hardly wait for school to be out for summer. Soccer season means playing chauffeur nearly every night. Vacation plans are still up in the air -- and there are only 247 shopping days until Christmas!

Whew! Now's the time to flip through your monthly calendar, cruise the PDA or scroll the BlackBerry and order season tickets for some of the 2007-08 season's finest area musical events, beginning this fall.

"Outside the Lines" is theme for the 2007-08 Wartburg College Artist Series in Waverly, which opens Oct. 2 with the Georgian State Dancers. The college has a reputation for first-rate performances, and this season promises an inventive mix of dance, music and drama. Begin your evening with dinner in the Heritage and St. Elizabeth rooms at Saemann Student Center, then walk to Neumann Auditorium on campus through the indoor skyway. Dinner is from 6 to 7 p.m. and performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Metro Community Concert Series ends its season with Cadence at 7:30 p.m. May 8, but season tickets are on sale for shows that begin Oct. 20 with a "Simply Sinatra" tribute. The series is a nonprofit, locally directed series featuring national performers. Performances take place at Kersenbrock Auditorium at Waterloo's West High School.

WARTBURG COLLEGE ARTIST SERIES

Georgian State Dancers, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2.

Under the former Soviet Union, Georgia was known for sun, fertile land, wine, music and dance. This troupe of 80 dancers performs Georgian folk dances, often divided into solo, pair and group presentations on stages around the world.

Sumunar Indonesian Music and Dance Ensemble, 7:30 p.m. Nov. 2.

Named after the Javanese word for "radiant light," the Sumunar ensemble will bring a bit of Indonesia to Iowa, presented by Indonesian Performing Arts Association of Minnesota. Javanese gamelan, an intricate set of instruments, creates music from classical to Indonesian pop tunes, while dance is fluid and includes classical and court styles. The group's shadow puppetry features flat leather puppets that are manipulated behind a shadow screen.

Angela M. Brown, 7:30 p.m. Jan. 29.

Called "one of America's most promising Verdi sopranos" by Opera News, Brown unleashes unparalleled vocal power, giving elegant, enthralling performances. In the roles of Aida, Amelia, Tosca, Elisabetta, Leonora, and Ariadne, Brown was lauded for her awe-inspiring performances. She is one of few U.S. operatic stars to be featured in Oprah Magazine, Essence and Reader's Digest.

"Beauty and the Beast," American Family Theater's Broadway for Kids, 7:30 p.m. March 13.

This musical theater production brings the timeless tale of unconditional love to life. Recall this class tale as Beauty's father is chased by wolves and comes face to face with Beast. Purchase one adult ticket and get up to two youths (12 and younger) tickets for $2 each!

Performances: Neumann Auditorium, Wartburg College, Waverly.
