CEDAR FALLS - It's not the first time 1501 Technology Parkway, Suite 200, has taken the form of a salon.
Earlier this year, in fact, the building housed La Bella's Salon Spa. Jayne Saul was an employee there. Now, Saul owns the new place, Jaynie Mo's Salon Spa.
"I've always been interested in the salon spa industry - just something about beauty and making you look good and taking care of yourself," Saul said. "It just seemed like the right fit for me. This opportunity came along and I took it."
Saul learned the business while at La Bella's, but Jaynie Mo's has a few differences. For starters, Jayne Mo's has special microdermabrasion machines, which Saul said are "less irritating" than a regular microdermabrasion treatment. The salon is the first in the state to have them - the Iowa Board of Cosmetology had to sign off on them specifically for Jaynie Mo's.
New product lines, including Napoleon Perdis and Bumble & Bumble makeup, and Control Corrective skin care, are available at few stores in the area or aren't available at all. But Jaynie Mo's has them.
The store also has gotten a new look - pinks and greens dominate - since taking it over May 1. The grand opening for Jaynie Mo's was Aug. 28.
"She wanted it a little more hip, more trendy, more exciting," said Saul's mother, LeeAnn Saul.
Saul said her mother, who previously owned the Pipac Centre, now Park Place Event Centre, has been her mentor in the business-owning process, guiding her through decision making and providing her with marketing assistance.
Pedicures have proven the most popular service in Jaynie Mo's few weeks of business so far, but Saul said with the ending of summer that probably won't be the case much longer.
"The facials and the massages (are getting popular)," Saul said. "And we have top-notch massage tables. We have awesome essential oils."
