Longtime KWWL employee promoted to station manager

WATERLOO - Kim Leer has been named station manager of KWWL-TV, Channel 7. She will start June 2.

Leer has spent more than 20 years in numerous roles at KWWL-TV. She is currently programming and operations manager at the station.

"Kim is an outstanding manager and leader who knows the TV station inside and out," said Tom Allen, the station's vice president. "KWWL has a rich history of community involvement and leadership in local news. With Kim's day-to-day supervision, that tradition will continue."

"Waterloo is my hometown, and KWWL has been a part of my life for two decades," Leer said. "I feel extremely fortunate to continue to work with the wonderful team at Iowa's News Channel 7."

Leer is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa. She and her husband, Jeffrey, live in Waterloo.

Leer's appointment follows the announcement that Allen has been named vice president/general manager of KWWL's sister station, WKOW-TV in Madison, Wis. He starts there June 2. In addition to his new role in Madison, Allen will retain corporate responsibility for KWWL in Waterloo and the company's NBC affiliate in Quincy, Ill., WGEM-TV, and its Quincy radio properties WGEM-AM/FM. All stations are owned by Quincy Newspapers Inc., headquartered in Quincy.

QNI is a privately held family owned company with roots in the newspaper business dating to 1835.

Quincy Newspapers Inc. was formed in 1926 with the merger of The Quincy Herald and The Quincy Whig-Journal.
